Tour A: “Green Power”- Learn and see how landfill methane
gas is captured and converted into electrical power. Visit the Horry County
Solid Waste Authority’s Conway facility and see the new and innovative technology
used to manage the ever-increasing trash created by the 12.2 million annual
visitors to the Grand Strand area. This award winning facility has implemented an
intensive countywide recycling program to extend the life of their landfill. *
Tour B: “Community Outreach” – Ahoy! This tour features the
“Gator”, an amphibious bus, as transportation. We will drive from the highway
directly into the Waccamaw River and Intra-coastal waterway-so weak at hearts
be wary. The black waters of the Waccamaw are rich in history with memories of
the old plantations, the rice fields and indigo. The fauna, flora
and wildlife change daily on this leisurely adventure. We’ll talk about the
local cultures and the people who tamed the area. We will see the Sandy Island Community and
how the RC&D program reached out to help families improve their unique
island community and protect their heritage. *
Tour C: “Innovative Wastewater Management” -Visit the Grand
Strand Water & Sewer Authority’s Bucksport treatment facility to see
innovative methods of managing liquid wastes. Tour their turfgrass and tree farms
to understand how communities can turn waste into dollars. *
Tours A, B, and C will visit a “POWER” for Wildlife site to
explore the benefits this unique statewide RC&D program provides to the landowner,
utility companies and wildlife.
Tour D: “Spouse’s Tour”- Shop-Till-U-Drop is the theme for
this tour. Experience the unique shopping adventure at the Myrtle Beach Factory
Outlet Stores. Located between Conway and Myrtle Beach. The MB Factory
Outlet Stores complex has over 100 name brand outlet stores conveniently
located for your shopping experience. Just bring your checkbooks and credit
cards for this tour - no one allowed back on bus without a purchase. *
*All tours will conclude with a Lowcountry Pig-Picking Bar-B-Que lunch at Huntington Beach State Park.
